The Swan

Talking to my colleague about kids and school runs: Me: “God! Imagine me on a school run… I’d seriously whack someone with my handbag!” Colleague: “Nah, see I definitely think you’ll be one of those ‘chilled’ out moms… Nothing ever seems to get to you, you always seem calm.. You’re like a swan – always composed and ‘together’. No one would ever know if anything’s ‘bubbling’ underneath…” She’s sweet, bless her, but not sure she knows me very well though… Or maybe she doesn’t? I don’t know..  Can’t say I’ve ever seen myself as a swan… And I certainly don’t … Continue reading The Swan

Woman Resists Urge To Sniff Fellow Communter

That awkward moment when you’re seriously considering leaning in and sniffing the guy in front of you on the bus after catching a whiff of his aftershave… …. I know! This is getting out of hand! Think it’s definitely a sign that I’ve been alone for too long! (Un)fortunately, I still have my limits (even if he smells heavenly)… :s Continue reading Woman Resists Urge To Sniff Fellow Communter

Manager Questions Woman About Her Future Aspirations

That awkward moment when your line-manager goes “But WHY don’t you want to be a manager?”….And the only answer you can think of is “Because I don’t think I could handle managing a bunch of idiots… I’d probably sack them all and do everything myself…” (Yea… Don’t expect to get a “perky” answer out of me on a Thursday afternoon!) Luckily, she laughed! Continue reading Manager Questions Woman About Her Future Aspirations

The Wave Project

Around October/November time last year, I read an article about ThevWave Project – a not for profit company which helps young people to reduce anxiety and improve confidence through surfing – receiving more funding from the NHS. As my housemate’s a surfer, it made me think of him, so I told him about it. He signed up to be a volunteer and yesterday was his first day (well, afternoon) helping out. The first thing he said when he got back was that it had been an amazing afternoon. And the smile on his face when he told me “his little man” (each volunteer … Continue reading The Wave Project

The Dentist’s Visit That Didn’t Go Quite as Expected

That awkward moment when you go to the dentist… expecting hardcore “mouth rape”, but only end up spending 10 seconds in the chair before being told you have gorgeous teeth and don’t need to come back for at least another 18 months… :s oh well, my teeth say “spank you muchly”, but my wallet is definitely feeling a bit “violated”… I mean, £18.80 for 10 seconds? Suppose it could’ve been worse, but definitely feels like a bit of a rip-off…:/ Continue reading The Dentist’s Visit That Didn’t Go Quite as Expected

The ‘Nurse Cat’…A little Lovin’ can work wonders, people…never forget that!

Call me “overemotional” but this nearly made me cry! (and it isn’t even “that time of the month”): (http://themeowpost.com/something-amazing-is-happening-at-this-polish-animal-shelter-all-because-of-one-nurse-cat/) Laugh at me if you wish but I find the whole thing incredibly “touching”. See I think we all underestimate the impact that a little loving can have sometimes! I believe a little loving and kindness can actually work wonders if you show it to the people around you – whether it be by bringing your colleague a cup of tea without them asking, sending a text/calling your sister just to tell her you love her, giving your housemate a spontaneous … Continue reading The ‘Nurse Cat’…A little Lovin’ can work wonders, people…never forget that!
